Maggie is doing very well and will be looking for her forever home very soon. We just payed the final installment of her vet bills, so if you could help us that would be great!!
This is our girl, Maggie. She has fully recovered from battling intussusception & a ruptured intestine. Intussusception is when the intestine folds into itself. Maggie was in a foster home with her 5 kittens. Sadly, that foster let over 10 kittens nurse on her while she wasn’t eating.
She came to us on February 21st. She and her babies had been found in an abandoned house.
She went to a foster. We kept in close communication with the foster, and Maggie early on had a few issues and went to a vet near the foster. We spent over $800 on her initial medical bills.
In the interim, we were apprised of a litter of 5 kittens that were orphaned and our foster advised that she could take them in, we had been to her house and we were ok with it.
She let the new kittens nurse on Maggie, which is something that we as a rescue would never do.
We checked in frequently as to how everyone was doing.
On Thursday April 21st, the foster contacted us and told us that “What’s going on here is Maggie is sick of the babies. She can’t get away from them and I don’t have a way to keep them separated. They are literally sucking her dry at this point and won’t leave her alone. She’s getting skinny”
We took Maggie and all the babies, the next day. We immediately knew that Maggie was not doing well and contacted our rescue partner, Renee at The Cat Lounge as she had agreed to take the additional 5 kittens into her rescue for us. We were taking them that day. When I contacted her to tell her about Maggie, she immediately said to bring her down. She kept her over the weekend and got her to her vet Monday morning.
And, they took excellent care of our Maggie. They did testing to determine what was wrong with her as she weighed under 5 pounds.. After a lengthy touch & go surgery, she had over 400 cc’s of yellow fluid in her abdomen with a ruptured intestine.
The vet costs currently were $2234.51. If you would like to help defray the costs, we would be appreciative.
